Can Two Factor Authentication Make Your Business More Secure

For decades, passwords are the modern key to entering the digital world. But, now, we are beginning to see that passwords are just not enough anymore to protect businesses from attacks. Two factor authentication (2FA) is an extra layer of security that protects businesses and individuals from online attacks. 2FA makes it much more difficult for hackers to gain access to sensitive information.

What is two factor authentification?

Two-factor authentication is a two step process to verify someone’s account and gain access to a business operational system. No matter how complicated your password may seem, there are always ways for a hacker to crack it. That’s why having a two factor authentication system is vital.

How does two factor authentication work?

The added security of a multi factor authentication system makes it harder for hackers to get in. You could use either an app on your phone or key fob, plus something you know – passwords don’t always work! The gotta have peace of mind is a strategy that combines something you know (your password) with something physical – like an app on your phone or key fob. It’s difficult for hackers to replicate because they don’t have access to this extra element!

How to set up two factor authentication

There are a number of different ways to set up 2FA, but the most common is to use a combination of something you know (such as a password or PIN) and something you have (such as a mobile phone). The two “keys” are different in that the user knows one, and the other is given to them for a short period of time.

Your employees should know their own personal passwords, which is the first step in a 2FA. But the second key they need to sign in with is sent to their phone or email and only for a short period of time. This means that even if a hacker manages to steal your password, they won’t be able to access your account unless they also have your mobile phone.

Keep your data safe

Even with recent trends of cybersecurity requiring us to use symbols and capital letters in our passwords, it’s important to have a secondary layer of protection. There is software capable of deciphering passwords and phishing emails that can trick users into giving away sensitive data. Adding two factor authentication will help increase your defenses for accessing company sensitive data. No matter how complicated your password may be, there are always ways for hackers to crack it, and 2FA is the next best step for adding more security.
